In short
The most common galvanized sheet sizes are 1000 × 2000, 1250 × 2500 and 1500 × 3000 mm. One square metre of Z275 galvanized sheet weighs 4.20 kg at 0.50 mm and 8.12 kg at 1 mm.

Standard sheet sizes
Galvanized steel is produced as coil and cut into sheets on a cut-to-length line. The most common sheet sizes are:
- 1000 × 2000 mm (2 m²)
- 1250 × 2500 mm (3.125 m²)
- 1500 × 3000 mm (4.5 m²)
These sizes are not mandatory. Because sheets are cut from coil, the length can be set to your needs, which reduces scrap. See our cut-to-length service.
How much does 1 m² of galvanized sheet weigh?
Steel density is taken as 7.85 g/cm³: one square metre of 1 mm steel sheet weighs 7.85 kg. For galvanized sheet the zinc coating is added. The coating class states the total zinc on both sides in g/m²; for Z275 that is 0.275 kg/m².
Weight per m² (kg) = Thickness (mm) × 7.85 + Coating (kg/m²)
Example: 0.50 mm Z275 galvanized sheet → 0.50 × 7.85 + 0.275 = 4.20 kg/m².
| Thickness | Steel (kg/m²) | Incl. Z275 (kg/m²) |
|---|---|---|
| 0.40 mm | 3.14 | 3.42 |
| 0.50 mm | 3.92 | 4.20 |
| 0.60 mm | 4.71 | 4.99 |
| 0.70 mm | 5.49 | 5.77 |
| 0.80 mm | 6.28 | 6.56 |
| 1.00 mm | 7.85 | 8.12 |
| 1.20 mm | 9.42 | 9.70 |
| 1.50 mm | 11.77 | 12.05 |
| 2.00 mm | 15.70 | 15.97 |
| 2.50 mm | 19.62 | 19.90 |
| 3.00 mm | 23.55 | 23.82 |
Sheet weights (incl. Z275)
The values are the theoretical weight of one sheet: weight per m² × sheet area.
| Thickness | 1000 × 2000 mm | 1250 × 2500 mm | 1500 × 3000 mm |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.40 mm | 6.83 kg | 10.67 kg | 15.37 kg |
| 0.50 mm | 8.40 kg | 13.12 kg | 18.90 kg |
| 0.60 mm | 9.97 kg | 15.58 kg | 22.43 kg |
| 0.70 mm | 11.54 kg | 18.03 kg | 25.96 kg |
| 0.80 mm | 13.11 kg | 20.48 kg | 29.50 kg |
| 1.00 mm | 16.25 kg | 25.39 kg | 36.56 kg |
| 1.20 mm | 19.39 kg | 30.30 kg | 43.63 kg |
| 1.50 mm | 24.10 kg | 37.66 kg | 54.23 kg |
| 2.00 mm | 31.95 kg | 49.92 kg | 71.89 kg |
| 2.50 mm | 39.80 kg | 62.19 kg | 89.55 kg |
| 3.00 mm | 47.65 kg | 74.45 kg | 107.21 kg |
Why can the actual weight differ?
The calculated value is theoretical. Thickness tolerances are defined in EN 10143, and the actual thickness may deviate from the nominal value within the permitted range. The coating mass may also exceed the minimum of its class. Weighed sheets therefore usually differ by 1–3% from the calculation. For the difference between coating classes, see our Z100–Z275 guide.
Calculate your own size
For other thicknesses, widths, lengths or coatings use the steel sheet weight calculator. See galvanized flat sheet for product options or request a quote.
