In pre-painted steel the paint system determines colour stability, UV resistance and service life. Polyester is economical and common, SMP more durable, and PVDF the top choice for aggressive climates.
Steel sheet weight is calculated as thickness (mm) × width (m) × length (m) × 7.85. One square metre of 1 mm steel weighs 7.85 kg.
The number after the letter Z is the total zinc on both sides of the sheet in g/m². Z275 means roughly 20 µm of zinc per side and is recommended for outdoor use.
Galvanized sheet is steel coated with zinc to protect it from corrosion. Hot-dip galvanizing is the most common method; the coating provides both barrier and cathodic protection.
